Volunteer Job Description

Camp Healing Tree Volunteer Job Positions:

Buddy
Primary responsibility is being a supportive role model to the campers to which you are assigned. A Buddy needs to possess good listening and communication skills, significant physical energy, patience, and a sense of humor. A Buddy will need to remain at camp the entire weekend. A Buddy will participate in all activities with their campers, including: bunking in cabin, sharing activities, recreational activities, meals, etc.
New Buddies must attend the pre-camp training session on August 8th. All Buddies must attend the pre-camp training session on Monday, August 17th. Younger campers are usually age 7 to 11; older campers are usually 11 to 17.
Facilitator
Facilitators need to possess good listening and communication skills. They should also have experience facilitating children's grief support group activities, and have Director approval. They will need to remain at camp the entire weekend, except when the campers are sleeping.
New Facilitators must attend the pre-camp training session on August 8th and all Facilitators must attend the training session on Monday, August 17th.
Runner
Runners help with camp from set up to clean up. They assist Camp Directors with preparing for activities, and "running" errands on the Campgrounds. When there is free time, runners can observe camp activities. This requires a lot of physical energy and flexibility. Runners stay at the camp all weekend.
Pre-camp training is required for all Runners. * Runners must be ages 14 and up. All Runners under 18 years of age must be fingerprinted (see a Director for details).
Pre-Camp Volunteer
These volunteers assist with things that can be done before camp begins, such as mailings, preparing arts and crafts, name tags, organizing camper packets, purchasing supplies, etc.
Pre-camp training is not required for these volunteers.
Kitchen Crew
A member of the kitchen crew needs to be able to assist in preparation and serving of the camp meals and kitchen clean up. This position can be part time (choosing to work only particular meal times and not others) or full time. For the kitchen crew working the breakfast shift, arrival at camp will be early in the morning.
Kitchen crew is not required to remain at camp during sleeping hours. New Kitchen crew volunteers are required to attend the pre-camp training.
Registration for Campers (Check-in & Check Out)
These volunteers assist at the registration tables as campers arrive Friday evening and depart Sunday late morning. (You may choose to do one or both.)
New Registration volunteers must attend the pre-camp training session.
Volunteer Registration
These volunteers help arriving volunteers find out where they need to go and check them in and out. Volunteers are needed for Friday evening, until 2:00 on Saturday, and on Sunday morning.
Camp Nurses
Provide first aid for campers and volunteers. Camp maintains 24-hour nursing coverage. Nurses can work a 6 or 12-hour shift.
New Camp nurses are required to attend pre-camp training sessions. Must be a licensed R.N.
Set Up Volunteers
These volunteers need to arrive Friday morning. They will assist with preparing the camp facilities, setting up for the evening activities, helping with bunk assignments and directing traffic.
Inventory/Clean Up Crew
A crew is needed to arrive at camp on Sunday morning to help Directors with packing camp and completing a supplies inventory.
These volunteers are welcome, but not required to attend any pre-camp training. We love these volunteers!
Music Leaders
Volunteers are needed to assist with musical activities several times throughout camp.
New Music volunteers are required to attend the pre-camp training session. Ages 14 and up *.
Face Painters
Volunteers that have experience or an interest in face painting for campers are needed at various times during camp.
Face painters are welcome, but not required, to attend pre camp training sessions. Face painting is usually done at all meal times on Saturday. Ages 14 and up *.
Arts & Crafts Volunteers
Volunteers assist with various arts & crafts activities. This includes assisting campers with their craft items, assisting with supervising campers, setting up and cleaning up the craft areas. There are two craft sessions - one for older campers and one for younger.
New Arts and Crafts Volunteers will need to attend pre-camp training on August 8th. Ages 14 and up *.
Night Supervision Volunteers
Work during the nighttime hours to stroll the campgrounds to ensure safety. Please be prepared to stay awake during the night and make periodic rounds.
New Night Supervision volunteers are encouraged to attend pre-camp training sessions.
Photographer
Walks around camp during the weekend and takes pictures of activities. Camp will provide the film of your choice for your camera/equipment.
Pre-camp training is encouraged, but not mandatory. May work one day or the whole weekend.
Lifeguard
Provides lifeguard service for camper swimming for four hours on Saturday. Must be Red Cross Certified.
No pre-camp training required.
Massage Therapists
Provide massage to volunteers on Saturday during camp. Must have completed course of study.
No pre-camp training required.
Audio-Visual Coordinator
Assists camp staff with setting up TV/VCR, sound equipment and overhead projector as needed. Camp will provide equipment, unless you have a connection for rental.
